Sunday, September 13, we celebrated Welcome Sunday and began a new theme to guide our study and reflection throughout the coming year:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1
Our symbol for this year is the lighthouse. God is like a lighthouse as a reminder of help and guidance. The lighthouse shines a light, shows us the way, and offers hope in the midst of darkness. In the same way, we are called to reflect the light and hope of God to those around us.
After our service, we had our Grateful Gathering, a pot luck event. We enjoyed a wonderful time of food, fellowship, and gratitude. We also had the opportunity to create a lighthouse craft to take home—a simple reminder throughout the year that God is our refuge, our strength, and our ever-present help.
Throughout the year, we will return to this verse, reflecting on its meaning and considering how it speaks to the times and events happening around us. Together, we’ll explore how God is our refuge and strength in the joys, challenges, uncertainties, and changes we experience in our lives and in the world around us.
Let’s shine His light and share His hope together!
